Table of Contents ~ More Modern Love
  XIV. Treading the Moebius Strip
  You married me the day your son was born;
And you divorced me on your wedding day.
The fabric of our love was torn
Like the flag of an unwanted country
Before we reached a second election.
When wheels spin too fast, the direction
Seems reversed; so it was with us.
Married before we met again, trust
Us to divorce before as well.
We thought, two years, we could set back the sun,
Turn time's course leftward, but we fell
Against the wheel, caught in it, and we spun
Ourselves apart—thrown our separate ways.
It was a fool's endeavor, but deserving praise.
